Breaking Chains

This week the Bible Study I am in What Happens When Women Say Yes to God challenges us to write about making the decision to be set free by applying the powerful truth of God’s Word to whatever has been holding us captive.

I have been held captive by not using my time wisely. Scripture says this about using our time wisely “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise bus as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16 I think a lot of people can relate with not using their time wisely. I know have been acting foolishly by spending too much time checking emails, statuses on Facebook, and watching t.v. Because of this I am then behind schedule and not able to do all that I have to get done so we have to rush and then of course nothing goes as planned and I come unglued!

The root of my problem is laziness and selfishness. I really don’t want to clean my house so I get distracted elsewhere. And I am exhausted so watching t.v. with my family is a much easier choice then doing whatever I need to do. Scripture says this about selfishness; “For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.” James 3:16 Oh my, can I attest to the disorder!!! That is my home right now!!! God warns us about our selfishness and tells us the price is disorder but I obviously have not heeded His warning and I know I am not alone in this.

But I want to be obedient and I want a home of order and peace! Peace is a fruit of the spirit that believers should have if they are obedient (Galatians 5:22-23) and obviously I am not being obedient in some areas so this is something I do not have.

So what is keeping me from peace, and order? Me! After living like this for so long I am getting in my way. This way of life has become a bad habit to break. How can I break it? Not on my own! I must turn to the Lord for strength when I am too exhausted to go on and that sofa with my family lounging looks so good and seems to be screaming my name (or the computer) ! I can turn to Christ for strength (Philippians 4:13) and “Destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” 2 Corinthians 10:5.

This is what I need to do as soon as Satan puts those thoughts in my head that are going to lead me to a decision that will take away my peace and order. Then I can truly break the chains of my captivity.

Is Satan holding you in bondage today? God’s word is our sword (Ephesians 6:17) against Satan. We need to be reading it and memorizing it so when Satan attacks we are ready with our sword to attack. Why not start breaking those chains today!

Ladies six years ago I got a glimpse of eternity as I said yes to what God asked me to do.
My husband and I had been listening for months to our Pastor preach on missions and how we are to be obedient and go and the Lord started tugging on our hearts. We attended a missions conference at our church and the tug kept getting stronger and stronger. Finally one night in the van on the way home from church we both looked at each other and at the same time asked the other if we were feeling like God had been speaking to them through our Pastor and wanted us to be missionaries. The answer was yes.

God had been working in both our hearts and we didn’t even know it. This was our first step next we told our church and then had the job of getting ready to leave our family and church family and in our mid 30’s with three kids and one on the way pack up and move to Kentucky to go to Seminary.

The past six years has been a roller coaster of emotions and the past four years at Seminary has been some of the loneliest and most difficult years of our lives. Satan has been attacking us constantly through exhaustion and through insecurity. Satan continually feeds me lies that I cannot serve the Lord because I don’t have it together in my daily life and if anyone saw how I ran my house and came unglued with my family they would never allow me to become a missionary. Satan does not want anyone to come to Christ so when you say yes to God be ready!

This is when I cling to God’s word! “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10 God can use anyone for Him to be glorified! And I remember all His blessings and His provision for us daily.

Saying yes to God is not easy but I praise God that He asked us to serve Him and I thank Him for the strength He gives us when it gets hard. What we suffer for Christ is nothing compared to His sacrifice for our salvation! Remember that when you are struggling and the Devil is roaring like a lion ready to devour you.

Thank God He doesn’t ask us to do anything that He won’t equip us to do. This should encourage us not to be fearful or insecure. What joy it is to serve the Lord!!

Welcome to my blog I hope this will be an encouragement to you as I share what the Lord lays on my heart to share.  I will be real and let you step into my daily imperfect progress life as I strive to be obedient to the Lord and be a girl who says yes to God in ‘whatever’ He asks me to do and glorify Him in all my actions and words.  As I said it is imperfect progress so I will share with you how I fail but still continue on by asking for forgiveness, repenting, and re-surrendering to be a follower of Jesus.
